As a white boy who grew up in Liberia, the cassava leaf in red oil here is PERFECT. If you are seeking an example of West African food, this is the place. They offer mild and spicy, but even the mild brings a little heat. The food is authentic and their offerings are wide. I think they would do well to reduce the number of offerings to really focus on making a few dishes better, but all are worth trying.

As for service, there isn't much. A person will take your order, give you a little beeper, and provide you the food over the counter after you wait off to the side.

This is also mostly why only a 3 star for atmosphere. Each time I go they are playing some modern day American hip hop from some streaming services, the walls are not decorated in any organized West African manner, and the display cases are pretty run down. However, as mentioned earlier, this is a place to grab your food and go.

Highly recommend ordering ahead of time as wait time for ordering can easily be 10-15 mins if you just show up and order.

This was my first time in African deli I was greeted, and the man took the time to explain to me the difference between two dishes that I was looking at. I was very pleased with the customer service. I ordered the fried red kidney beans with fish and oxtail, which I had to pay extra for the oxtail, no problem, then I got some Jollof rice and I got some puff puff and a hibiscus pineapple tea. Each meal that I ordered was $13. I don’t know how much extra I pay for the oxtail or how much the puff puff was because I didn’t get the itemized receipt that I asked for they just gave me a receipt with the total of $40.16 on there (just to give some context on pricing). I ordered the tea later, it was $4. Grand total spent, $44.16. I was super excited about this food. When I got home I tried the jollof rice, it tastes like nothing but aluminum can tomato sauce, and the fish was okay. My fried red beans didn’t have the mild spice as requested but they were okay. The puff puff was slightly chewier than I am used to but they were okay too. All in all, I may give it a second chance because it wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t as flavorful as I am used to when it comes to African Food. 6/10

I heard good things about African Deli. Today, I found out that it truly is such a splendid establishment! First time visit, I placed a large order of assorted items and asked for it to be ready for pickup within 4 hours. They met my expectations and the food was SO DELICIOUS! Will definitely come back!

It's stupid good. I got the fufu, egusi (spicy), and cassava leaves. Amazing. Chef's kisses. I don't have enough words to say it's a must. Everything is finger burning hot even for take out. I'll be back.

The food in this restaurant is amazing they are very clean people this restaurant is different than most because it provides African food that is authentic and you can have the spicy sauce separated from the food so you can taste the food and add your own consistency of spice also I suggest that you try the kala bread ball dip it in the pepper sauce it is so delicious tell him his dreadlock vegen daughter sent you he is a long time friend of my family and this is the only African restaurant that I will refer someone to because of how clean they are and how good Patrick's food is in that restaurant. If you don't know what to drink grab a vimto pop it is the small red can it tastes like the strawberry ice cream off the ice cream truck that comes in the plastic triangle called two ball screwball do you remember that ice cream off the truck call two ball screwball in the bottom of the triangle plastic container that the sweet ice cream came in you can get pink or blue it tastes like a strawberry kind of sherbet there was two gumballs in the bottom of that ice cream I would never forget how good it was but back to the pop get the pop called vimto if you like strawberry sherbet ice cream 🍦 😉 don't forget to tell Patrick the vegan dreadlock girl sent you

I love this place I have been going here since they opened up. Patrick has a great personality and his wife and kids are most definitely team players. They can really cook and they get it together exactly how you like it. I love the Fried collard greens and the a agoosey with the rice, I’m sure I didn’t spell that right but you get my drift. The fufu is interesting, not nasty but a texture you have to get use to.

I had a bad experience w/ African food before this place and I was wary but oh my gosh, this place is SO good. I literally ate it for nearly 2 weeks straight 😅 I always get the spinach with turkey necks and pepper sauce on side. So delicious and flavorful. Now I’m showing all my friends & family this place. 🥰 Just wish they weren’t closed 3 days out of the week 😭

It was just ok. The food was good but the meat was like jerky and it lacked flavor and they charged $2 extra . We got potato greens and peanut butter spinach soup with boneless chicken and shrimp also corn bread, that was no good. Not sure if I'll make the trip back
