My husband and I stayed at Hacienda del Sol this past weekend and it was wonderful. The construction of the motel started in 1947 and was finished in phases through the ‘50s. On 10 acres, it contains motel rooms, side by side casitas, and stand-alone ranchos. ||I started reading the reviews on TripAdvisor and was surprised by the negative tone. Then I noticed that the negative reviews were pre-2021. New owners purchased the business in 2021 and have been renovating since. You should ignore all reviews prior to then.||The motel rooms and casitas have been careful renovated to retain their old charm but updated to bring them into the modern age (i.e. beds, furniture, detailing). It would be easy to go overboard in renovating these buildings and end up with some version of overly kitschy atomic age, but the new owners have not ventured there. ||The renovations are simple (or plain if you are a Quaker from Pennsylvania) but plain is not necessarily inexpensive. This is plain that is luxury, where less is more. The photos on the web site are true, the buildings and rooms are phenomenal, the attitude for the renovations is just right. One illustration of this is that there are no TVs nor microwaves at Hacienda del Sol.||The hotel is in the midst of ‘downtown’ Borrego Springs, which means it is easily walkable to restaurants, the grocery, the art exhibition center, and the performing arts center. However, being secluded on its ten acres means that it is quiet, too.||The owners are dog friendly, happy to host our two pooches, and even placed water and food bowls on a mat in our room.||I am now a huge fan of Hacienda del Sol. You will be, too.

We loved our stay! We tried both the Motor Lodge room and the larger Casita. Beds were super comfy, great water pressure for showers and nice adjustable climate control. The Casita is perfect for a multi-day stay in the area with a fully functioning kitchen and separate living room space as well as a front patio area. The property has lovely paths through desert plants connecting the various amenities, and we saw and heard lots of wildlife. We loved making a fire in the shared hangout area fireplace and enjoyed the pool and games as well. Peter was an excellent resource for local recommendations and lovely to chat with. We're really looking forward to staying here again.

We stayed in Casita 6 and felt at home with black out curtains and comfy bed, mid century modern in the living room and a big bathtub as well as a tiny kitchen. We brought popcorn and hot chocolate (ther is a microwave) and he two of us actually rested (low distraction, quiet) well in between seeing the sights. A sculpture garden is nearby and took a day trip to Julian to buy pie. November it was not too hot. . .and of course the dark sky for star watching. Will definitely go back! Be prepared for no TV, bring a record for the phonograph instead. Cool vibe.

Great location. Convenient, in town. Good beds and pillows. Slept really well. Clean room, coffee pot, fridge and tea Kettle. Enjoyed the stay. No tvs, which is good. It was quiet.

We stayed here with our kids on the way to Julian and spent some time enjoying the pool and the outdoor patio area. We had a relaxing and quiet stay; spent out day decompressing and admiring the desert atmosphere. Awesome location, views of the mountains, and lovely comfortable rooms. We stayed in one of the motel rooms but would definitely consider renting a casita for a longer stay, they look cute and private. Thank you!
