We having been buying their whole carrot cake for birthdays the past 10 years and it never disappoints. The extra taste even better the following day 🙂 It also hefty (you can feel the weight carrying it, dense, but light at the same time. Absolutely phenomenal.

I used to love Sweet Adeline Bakery back in the day—it had that special charm with delicious treats and a cozy atmosphere. Unfortunately, my recent visit was a huge letdown. I popped in today to grab a cup of coffee, but after waiting in line for 10 minutes with only two people ahead of me, I had to leave. What was happening behind the counter? Seven or eight employees were all standing around, putting a single cake in a box, while customers like me were left waiting.

It’s not even that the place was particularly busy—just an incredibly inefficient operation that made me feel completely overlooked. I remember when Sweet Adeline had that sense of warmth and care in its service, but it seems to have vanished. I had to leave because I was going to be late for an appointment, but honestly, it wasn’t even worth the wait. It’s such a shame because this place used to be a local gem.

Now, it just feels like a poor shadow of its former self. Truly disappointing.

I absolutely love Sweet Adeline and find any excuse to stop by. It was already charming before Amanda took over, but she has infused it with an even deeper sense of community—curating rotating artwork, providing coloring pages for kids, and pouring her heart into every detail. You can truly feel the love in this place.

And the baked goods? Next level. The ham and gruyere turnovers are perfection, the focaccia is irresistible, the shortbread cookies have a perfect crunch, and the pies and cakes are simply divine. Even their drip coffee packs a bold punch.

But what really sets Sweet Adeline apart is Amanda herself—she has a gift for remembering customers and their orders, making everyone feel like a regular. Walking in feels like stepping into a bakery straight out of a movie, where the pastries are always fresh, the coffee is always hot, and the owner greets you like an old friend. This place is pure magic.

My favorite cake of all-time is the carrot cake and Adeline makes the best! Let it sit out for a few hours at room temp and serve with a large cold glass of milk. It's perfectly cinnamon-y and moist cowboy bread with a velvety whipped cheesecake pudding frosting. So delicious. Thank you for making my birthday special.

Tried this bakery for the first time and it was delicious!!! Went with a quiche for the morning, which had an amazing texture and flavor. The holiday desserts (eggnong cheesecake and hibiscus lime tart) had great flavor. Pickup was also easy and the staff was friendly. Definitely a repeat.

Update: repeated! Still delicious. The cake is so light and fluffy, and the pie has great berry flavors. Will definitely be back!

This place was a huge let down. Can’t understand the good reviews. Cakes are not that delicious. Ambiance is to say the least not inviting. Never coming back.

RESPONSE - Since my original review was no comment, just 1 star, I will expound on my review to give my opinion to the response from the business: If I could give zero stars, I would, due to the poor treatment I received. Check your video and you will see that he got the cake and walked away and started serving the next customers. I thought it was to make up for his poor service. He actually started serving the next customers and walked away. I had already PURCHASED a latte and baked good. I then decided to buy cake from the small selection available. More than an HOUR before closing, your staff not only had a bad attitude because he had to step away from cleaning and closing for the day to help customers. I'm thinking, why is this person so nasty It is not yet 2pm and the cafe doesn't close for at least another hour. There was no whipped cream, no dessert that I came for, and He was rushy and rude. Yes, I was upset and surprised, because I have had much better experiences here, than this one in the past

Versatile bakery in Berkeley.
It's right on the cusp border so it's a bit different parking than downtown Berkeley, though it's Oakland border has always been contentious between outright incoherent messiness and streets of the same place. Easy parking outside depending on time of day you go and street access though makes it a highlight, a warm offering of baked goods inside. I got the Bavarian cake. Happy no one put sprinkles around the cake which I find not the best for any bakery to do. So two hoorays for that. Cake is good. Spongey, clean, not too sweet. Our friends enjoyed it. 😊. Haven't tried any of their other offerings.
